Study: Lake Superior is one of the more rapidly warming lakes
2015 was the hottest year on record, and lakes are warming up even more rapidly than the ocean or the atmosphere. A new study has found that normally frigid Lake Superior is one of the more rapidly warming lakes among 235 measured.
The average temperature increase of 0.61 degrees per decade doesn’t sound threatening, but even such a low threshold carries a 20 percent increase in algae blooms and significantly reduced ice cover.
