Nabjot Kaur is a dedicated environmental advocate renowned for her expertise in sustainability and climate change policy. She has excelled in coalition building, environmental policy, strategic planning, and sustainability initiatives. Throughout her career, Nabjot has made significant contributions to environmental legislation.

Most recently, she served as the Legislative Director for District 24 in the New York City Council. In this role, she developed and managed policy in collaboration with the elected City Council Member, submitted legislative service requests, and introduced legislation. She has played a pivotal role in passing key local laws, including Local Law 32 of 2023, which bans high-polluting Fuel #4 in buildings and schools; Local Law 57 of 2023, which mandates the NYC Department of Buildings to educate New Yorkers about solar and green roof systems; and Local Law 19 of 2024, which requires the Department of Environmental Protection to install vessel waste pumpout facilities in NYC’s coastal waters to achieve a no-discharge zone designation. Nabjot is known for her ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with advocates and stakeholders, maximizing synergies to drive engagement and develop successful campaign strategies.

Before her role at the City Council, Nabjot was the Manager of Volunteer Programs at GrowNYC, where she championed volunteer recruitment and managed teams of volunteers. She also held various positions at GrowNYC, including Coordinator of the Zero-Waste Program and Manager of the Compost and Greenmarket Program. In these roles, she significantly increased volunteer engagement, public participation in environmental initiatives, and facilitated educational outreach on the benefits of composting and recycling.

Described as an advocate, expert, and motivator, Nabjot is recognized for her skills in stakeholder engagement, team leadership, legislative analysis and advocacy, executive communication, and public advocacy. Her dedication to environmental advocacy is her guiding principle, reflecting her belief in the collective responsibility to care for our planet.

Nabjot holds a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) with a focus on Urban Development & Sustainability, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Public Affairs, both from CUNY Baruch College, Marxe School of Public & International Affairs. She also holds a Climate Reality Leadership Certification.

Outside of work, Nabjot enjoys practicing taekwondo, learning new languages, exploring NYC’s green spaces and culinary scene, and creating delicious beverages like matcha, chai, and lattes. Nabjot resides in NYC, where she continues to be an active and engaged member of her community.
