|Following Michigan State Representative Julie Dennis' presentation at the Midwest/Great Lakes issues forum hosted by NCEL in St. Paul October 14th, Minnesota Senator Jane Krentz sent a letter to Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura requesting him to block Michigan from allowing Perrier to divert millions of gallons of water from the Great Lakes basin. According to Senator Krentz, Governor Ventura has authority to stop the water removal under the Water Resources Development Act of 1986 which requires the consent of each of the Great Lakes' governors before a state diverts or exports water from the Great Lakes and their tributaries for use outside of the Great Lakes basin. Perrier will be bottling the water and sending it out of the Great Lakes area.
