IL Rep. May Heads New Environmental Health Committee
Feb 07, 2005Illinois Representative Karen May has been appointed to chair the General Assembly's new Environmental Health Committee, a committee she asked to have created. Under Representative May's direction, the committee will discuss and formulate policies that address the health effects of pollution and toxic contaminants. As far as NCEL can tell, this is the first stand-alone House or Senate committee anywhere in the United States set up specifically to deal with environmental health issues. "I want to change the way we think of environmental hazards; to frame the issue as one of protecting the health of our children and citizens," said May.
